view traffic fine photos (South Africa)

Traffic fine photos (.co.za co za)

Getting a traffic fine is not the nicest thing… especially you have not done anything intentionally ‘wrong’.
Well, now that you do have fines to pay, here is where you can view the pictures:

You can view the photo of your “offence” at

  • www.payfine.co.za (Western Cape, Johannesburg, Stellenbosch, Paarl, Swellendam, Mosselbay and more)

or view your traffic fines at

More information

  • www.speedtraps.co.za - Regarding location of speed traps (where are some of the speed traps), Laws (legal side), all these links and more.
  • Shellgeostar.co.za/fines1.asp - How much do fines cost in the different provinces? Traffic fine amounts.

Checking your traffic fines online saves you time and money.

Questions and Answers

Just looked at my speeding picture (80 in 60 zone). 2 questions.
1. If the picture has 2 cars side by side can they be sure which car is speeding?

2. Do the cameras ever get audited? Can I ask to see a certificate showing the camera to be acurate?
——————–
Hi! I’m no expert on this, but have heard some things…

1. They usually have two cameras, one for each lane. Else they can’t tell which car was speeding.

2. Audited? Who knows, it should be though. Also it’s supposed to be used from a certain distance etc.

Yeah, I would go and ask for the certification of the camera that was used. Every camera they own has certain operating conditions which have to be met. This probably has to be verified by the camera operator when setting it up and occasionally.

Lots of fines just NEVER arrive. Or people just never get summons. I know people that don’t pay fines; sometimes they dissapear. So I guess you could wait for the summons before you pay.

Some points in General:

  1. The fines in the post aren’t registered letters. So there’s no proof that you ever received it. Therefore you can wait for someone to bring it to you by hand (the sheriffs office does it). Then only have you really received the fine. Till then you can just say that you never received the fines in the post. Letters can go missing you know.
  2. Apparantly it’s illegal to be issued a fine by post as well. It has to be done in person AND on the scene. Which basically makes all these camera fines illegal.
  3. Also it’s illegal to be given a fine by an unmanned camera. In other words there has to be someone by the camera who can vouch for it. I mean, if you go to court there has to be someone who represents the cops and says that he was there with the camera. This doesn’t happen and the fine gets thrown out of court.
  4. Another illegality I have heard of: You can’t be issued a fine on your initials. The summons and fine has to be written out in your FULL name, else it’s invalid and can be thrown out. Because there could be many people in your address with the same initials and surname I guess.
  5. Lastly, go to court and say: “I wasn’t the driver of the car at the time and cannot vouch for who was driving the car.” — IF the traffic photo does not show your face, there’s no proof that it was you who was driving the car. Fines are issued to drivers, not cars. You can say the car was in for service, or borrowed it to someone. That gets the fine dropped pretty quick; because it’s a waste of court resources to pursue it any more. So for photos from behind or where you can’t see the driver - they have to prove who the driver of the car was. Not quite possible. That’s why the fine has to be issued by a human on the spot.
  6. I read a news article once that all fines issued after 30 days after the event are INVALID. Because you can’t remember who was driving that time I guess.

I wish some lawyer would verify these things…
NONE OF THESE TIPS ARE VERIFIED; SOME ARE FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE USED THESE LAWS AND SOME ARE FROM READING NEWSPAPERS AND SOME ARE FROM WORD OF MOUTH.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK AS USUAL.

Previous fine values

The fine values below are outdated. They cost much more nowadays, be warned!

freeway speeding logo
On a freeway with speed limit of 120 km/h fines start
at 131 km/h. Between 131 and 135 km/h the fine is R100, thereafter R100
for every 5km/h increase until 166 km/h, then it R200 for every 5 km/h until
180 km/h. Beyond 181 km/h there is no admission of guilt. The accused is
sent a notice to appear before a magistrate who will determine a fine or
jail sentence.
Urban Speeding logo
In urban areas the speed limit is 60 km/h, and a
fine of R100 is payable between 71 and 75 km/h. The amount payable increases
by a further R100 for every 5 km/h above 75 km/h until 120 km/h, at which
point there is no admission of guilt option and the driver will receive
notice to appear before a magistrate.

Hello… who ever…

Well, as I scour the web, researching, working, playing… I will write up any of the good stuff I find.
I mean, there is so much junk out there, I might as well lighten the load by highlighting the important stuff.

Yes, this idea has been thought of before, that’s why I am listing places you can go to find user created directories and information to help you in your search - defza - Searching

Enjoy….

Lonely Finger?!

Ok, this is probably one of the first links to the site…. www.lonelyfinger.com

Where did I get this? IT’S BEING ADVERTISED ON NATIONAL TELEVISION!?

I really don’t know what the point of it is!?

The flash/mpg video you can download on it was what was shown on TV.
They even send you the link to your cellphone (ZA) for you to download it… for free!?

I think it is just some lonely, sad, rich person who had the idea of creating some sort of outlet for his own ‘depression’.
I mean really, it costs a lot to advertise on TV! (a few times)

They aren’t selling anything either?!
There is no contact details (except for an email address).

Weird is all I can say…

www.lonelyfinger.com
lonelyfinger
lonelyfinger.co.za links to the same lonelyfinger too.

After talking to Jason, he pointed out that it might even be some psycho trying to get people into a cult for some “mass suicide” (yeah right, good luck finding more than a handful of equally sad people to pull the plug with ya)…
the “philosophy” part hints at it being this.
or maybe not.

—-

I actually tried to locating the author of the site…
> I first phoned the domain name registrars (gam.co.za).
> Who then gave me the phone number of the designers/owners of the domain. Which I then searched for and found to be gloo, well 33degrees.co.za as well (merged). I phoned them, but the bosses seem to be on holiday till the 13th Jan. ‘06.
> Then I will call again, and find out W.T.F.

I’ll post my findings here!

—-

OK, the first phone call: they weren’t aware of it!? I think I’ll just wait for the registrant to come back from holiday first…

—-

OK, just as I would have expected…
Calling them reveals NOTHING!!
They not ‘allowed to’…
So, don’t bother emailing or calling the designers… you won’t get anything out of them :)

He just said “wait and see, keep checking the website, it’s updated regularly”!?

As if there is going to be a product/service associated with a lonely finger soon?

So… till that time… this case remains a mystery…

——

OK, update time :)

You can email “me @ lonelyfinger . com”, and a PR (public relations) person will reply (that’s who I think it is)…

Seems his name is Stuart and is on a laptop… (Check the headers of the email you get in reply ;))

And lo and behold, the advertising agency behind this is BBDO: bbdo.co.za is empty, bbdo.com is the international companies website.
Also, BBDO did do the Virgin Atlantic advert in South Africa…. so, chances that it is for Virgin Mobile are pretty good.

As I said @ schpat’s website:

1) The only coorporation that is launching soon that will have the funds for this is Virgin Mobile.
They are opening operations up here, using CellC’s infrastructure.

They could be then be doing this to build up hype much in the same way that CellC made those cryptic adverts about the letter “C” before their launch.

Free global cache for any URL

I found a neat little gem the other day in the comments on slashdot.org.
Need a mirror of almost ANY site? just append .nyud.net:8090 to the address!
Brilliant free cache/proxy.

eg. if you want to access defza.com, just go to defza.com.nyud.net:8090. OR even a subdirectory like this: defza.com/wordpress becomes defza.com.nyud.net:8090/wordpress

Are you tired of clicking on some link from a web portal, only to find that the website is temporarily off-line because thousands or millions of other users are also trying to access it? Does your network have a really low-bandwidth connection, such that everyone, even accessing the same web pages, suffers from slow downloads? Have you ever run a website, only to find that suddenly you get hit with a spike of thousands of requests, overloading your server and possibly causing high monthly bills? If so, Coral might be your free solution for these problems!

Using Coral

Taking advantage of Coral CDN is simple. Just append

.nyud.net:8090

to the hostname of any URL, and your request for that URL is handled by Coral!

in the short-term, if you can’t access port 8090 due to a local firewall and still wish to use Coral, try finding an open web proxy running on port 80. For example, Google for the search term “cgiproxy start”.
