Postcard from Google (Adsense)

I received a postcard from google ;)

Google Adsense Postcard

Nah, it’s just from the Google Adsense Team :)

They sent all their Google Adsense users a verification pin to verify that there are real people at the address given! Something about fraud and what not.
That must have been quite a mailing list!

The Google Adsense Pin number provided is just a once off to verify that you are real and alive.

Google adsense is pretty cool, and extremely easy to use.

Here is an example of a half-banner:
This Code:
<script type="text/javascript"><!--
google_ad_client = "pub-1802553631602251";
google_ad_width = 234;
google_ad_height = 60;
google_ad_format = "234x60_as";
google_ad_type = "text_image";
google_ad_channel ="6199676621";
google_color_border = "336699";
google_color_bg = "FFFFFF";
google_color_link = "0000FF";
google_color_url = "008000";
google_color_text = "000000";
//--></script>
<script type="text/javascript"
src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">
</script>

Just paste it into your site, and you have ads. (Well, my ads in this case)

New MXit Version 3 (beta)

mxit startup screen

A new version of MXit is out…

It’s called V3 or Version 3. And can be found at www.mxit.co.za/beta

It’s still in beta development stages, and major new features are still to be added!

Here is the changelog (what’s new):

Version 3.0 differs from 2.4 in a number of ways and was needed to prepare MXit for the next wave of innovations we have been working on.

The following are a brief synopsis of some of the new features and changes. (Please note this list is not complete)

1. Several code optimizations were done that would yield faster response times on a large number of phones.

2. Several bugs were fix (and unfortunetly some new ones were introduced Embarassed . We humbly apologises for that and will fix them asap)

3. The Connecting and Logon phases were redesigned and are two separated phases now that will clearly indicates to a user where a signon problem lies. If it fails during the connecting phase, the problem is network related (GPRS or 3G). If it fails during Logon phase, it is a MXit server problem.

4. More emoticons were added.

5. Graphics capabilities were added and will go live soon. Will tell more about this as soon as servers are ready.

6. Form capabilities were added which will allow users to easily complete structured questions etc. New services that will employ these capabilities will be launched in the future. Will tell more about this soon.

7. Changes were made to allow easier code migrations between V3 and the Generic Version of MXit which will be released soon. These changes will also allow for easier and faster conversions to new phones.

8. Groups capabilities were added that allow users to place contacts into groups.

Enjoy…..

CellC sms via wap

CellC logo

Once again, I have completed another useful work of my own :)

The similar previous one, vodawap, was created for me to send sms to vodacom people (ok, ok, my girlfriend) from my mobile cellphone wap.

Now, I’ve created… um… cellcwap!

If you are on CellC, you get 5 free sms’s daily to send to other Cellc users via their website (cell.co.za)

Well, I wanted to access this site from my mobile cellphone so that I can receive sms from it. I am a CellC subscriber. (Their GPRS works now, so it has everything I need now).

Now you can access their site (CellC) from your mobile cellphone to send your 5 free sms a day.

It just costs you the GPRS costs (barely a few cents) of logging on and sending your sms’s.

Here it is:

wap.defza.com/cellc

Give it a try and let me know if their are any problems.

CellC via WAP / GPRS:: sms;
This is free cellc.co.za cellc to cellc sms’s.

All that’s left is to create one for MTN now!

Vodacom4me was the easiest to do, Cell C was a little tricky, now MTN looks the worst! There is so much javascript being used on the mtn site it’s a joke.

writing cellphone mobile programs (j2me)

And so, I added some content to the j2me tutorial page.

Someone needed help with this topic, which pushed me to write up something on writing mobile phone programs.
I mean, if you help one person why not make the information available for everyone? That will save the next person from going through all the same unnecessary gripes.

It’s always like that. No-one will create something that has a zero demand.

Anyway, back to the reason for this page - cellphone development.

Most cellphones use a mini java VM mostly referred to as the J2ME. So, you need to write the game or application in the Java language basically.

The tools available are neat - read more on the page :: http://www.defza.com/wordpress/development/j2me-tutorial/
