Hi. I have a huge dilemma. My first fine I got is R4500 for driving 85 in a 60 zone, I'm not a fast driver (the fastest I've gone is probably 110 on the high way) and now I'm getting 1 fine after another (on number 5), I'm scared JMPD are trying to scam me like with many people in 2008/9. I have received an sms for the first fine but nothing else. I'm a student and obviously don't have the money to pay... What could I do? LEGALLY?

I've got traffic fines totalling at R1250 , never received any leTter from traffic dept until they told me at a road block. How do I get a discount since I'm unemployed, if I don't pay them, will they be cancelled and after how long? Or does this fines remain forever?

----
I heard it was about 16 months before fines expire...

I received a R 750 speeding fine on the N4 travelling past the the Machadorp turn off on 9 September. The speed limit reduces from 120 kph to 80kph . I was advised I was travelling at R 103 kph. On inspecting the calibration certificate on request , I noted the date was 5 April 2011. Should the certificate not be updated every week ? Surely over 6 months is not legal ?

heres something to think about, why do we have a speed limit ? safety right , well how long has our speed limit been 120 km/h . im guessing like 20 years or something and now are they really then implying that cars developed since then are not safer and can handle better at higher speeds, and can break faster. and so why havent we by now lifted the speed limits ie maby 140 instead of 120 and maby 90 instead of 80 but i would keep 60 km/h where needed else 70 ... seriously its time. or lets just do like germany and make the N1 an autobahn !!!!!
-----
At first glance this makes sense... but, what hasn't changed is: people's reaction time. i.e. you cannot safely slow down or react fast enough to something that happens at high speed.
